Simple moments after he voiced the words, shoes were on, keys and camera be in hand, and we were headed to Picha Farms, a third generation u-pick berry  farm, in the farm-dotted country part about a half hour east of us.

We selected just a little pints worth of petite scarlet berries, so grown that by the time we get back home I know they needed to formulate their way into a recipe, stat.

Too hot to twist on the oven, I attention the little red beauty, mixed with some sugar, vanilla, and clean basil from the garden, Should  make a great addition to the dazzling water I drink all Summer .

The quick away , while u-pick field of all multiplicity may be subject by moms with toddlers, bending over rows of ripe berries in the brilliant sun is a good – albeit brief – knick-knack that farm labor is hard, hard work.

It’s fun to squander fifteen or so minutes filling up a little pint baskets with juicy, vibrant berries,

But the genuine laborers who waste hours, every day of the week alternative our produce deserve major admiration and support. It’s hot, strenuous, backbreaking work, that usually pays very little. And it’s not missing on me that I’m extremely privileged to go berry picking “for fun.”

Okay, soapbox!

These mocktails. Let’s find one thing out of the system first: yes, these strawberry basil sodas would absolutely very easily be cocktails.

Presently add a shot or two of your preferred liquor to the muddle mix  .

But since I’m not presently drinking, I thought I’d build these family friendly. I’m a lightweight even on a good day, so leaving the mocktail route also means new strawberry goodness to like throughout an afternoon.
